Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. R. Thomas McConaghy:
Fr. R. Thomas McConaghy was ordained a priest in 1981, who served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Norwich. He served at churches in Pawcatuck and Middlefield before he was named administrator of Sacred Heart and St. John’s in 1998, and then pastor in 1999.
According to media reports, in March 2005, Fr. McConaghy was removed from ministry amidst an allegation that he sexually abused a male student when he was commandant of LaSalle Military Academy in Oakdale, New York on Long Island. The alleged abuse occurred from 1973 to 1975, while he was a LaSalle Christian Brother, before his ordination. The Diocese of Norwich reportedly informed the Diocese of Rockville Centre of the allegation. Fr. McConaghy denied the allegation.
In February 2019, McConaghy’s name was included in the Diocese of Norwich’s list of clergy credibly accused of sexual abuse of minors.
It is believed he is currently living in Rumford, Rhode Island.
