Summary of Allegations Against Brother Jerome Binder:
Brother Jerome “Jerry” Binder professed vows to the Marianist order in 1957, and served in high schools in Cincinnati, Cleveland and taught art at North Catholic High School in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. According to media reports, in 2014, Br. Bernard Hartman was facing trial in Australia on child abuse allegations, when one person came forward to allege abuse at North Catholic High School. The Diocese of Pittsburgh launched an investigation to find other possible victims, and uncovered child sexual abuse allegations lodged against seven other brothers, including Brother Binder. Few details concerning the nature of his abuse are available.
In June 2020, the head of the Marianist Order apologized in writing to the Diocese of Pittsburgh and its students. Brother Binder’s name was included on the U.S. Marianists list of clergy credibly accused of child sexual abuse.
Binder died in February 2000.
