Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Andrew Suran:
Father Andrew Suran was ordained a priest in 1933 who served in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. According to media reports, in April 2004, a woman filed a lawsuit against the Diocese of Pittsburgh, saying that the priest repeatedly fondled her when she was 6 years old at St. Michael’s Church in Braddock, Pennsylvania. The abuse lasted for about a year until she said she developed a vaginal infection from the abuse.
Another woman, now 59, accused Father Suran of fondling her when she was 8 years old. Fourteen years later, the woman took a teaching job at St. Ann School in Homestead, where the priest had been transferred, and she said he again fondled and kissed her. She quit the job after only a few months because of the abuse.
Father Suran died in 1971. He is buried in Saint Clement Cemetery in Tarentum, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
