Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Robert W. Hammond:

In 2003, a man filed a lawsuit alleging he was sexually abused by Father Robert W. Hammond in 1979, while Hammond was the director of the Catholic youth summer program. The alleged incident occurred when the victim was 19 years old.

At the time, the man says Hammond was an overnight guest at a cottage after a dinner party with several other people and shared a bed with the priest. The victim alleged that Hammond touched his genital area without his consent.

Upon hearing the allegations, the Diocese of Rochester placed Hammond on restricted ministry. He was not assigned to any church or parish at the time of the allegations and resigned from his last post in 2000 for “personal reasons not related to any criminal activity.”

The Diocese of Rochester sentenced Hammond to Prayer & Penance in a 2012 announcement. His current location is unknown.
