Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Kenneth Van de Ven:
According to media reports, Father Ken Van de Ven, and another priest, Father Minogue were accused of sexual harassment by a young man who worked at Our Lady of Lourdes/Prince of Peace in Sun City West. The accuser never went public. Father Van de Ven denied the charges
He was placed on leave in June 2005, although the Diocese of Phoenix said both men left their parish positions for health reasons. Later, letters from Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted showed up in the church bulletins outlining the harassment charges.
The Diocese of Phoenix would have reinstated him in January 2007, but he declined.
Father Van de Ven, said he had no desire to fight the bishop over the suspension. He said the Diocese of Phoenix had evidence that the allegations were false “a long time ago” but “wanted to get rid of us.”
