Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Cesar Salazar:
Father Cesar Salazar was ordained a priest in 1993, who served in the Diocese of Orange. According to media reports, in 2001, a laymen found child pornography on Father Salazar’s old computer, who at the time was assigned to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Santa Ana, California. The Santa Ana Police Department was contacted and an investigation was conducted.
The investigative report submitted to the Orange County District Attorney’s office recommended that Salazar be charged with felony possession of child pornography. The prosecutors rejected the case, stating it would be too difficult to prove Father Salazar was the one who downloaded the pornographic images.
Following the investigation, Father Salazar was allowed to continue working because, according to the Diocese of Orange, child pornography does not fall under the diocese’s “zero tolerance” policy for sexual abuse.
In 2016, Father Salazar was listed on the Diocese of Orange’s list of members and former members of the clergy who have been removed from ministry resulting from a credible allegation of sexual abuse as being removed from the priesthood and laicized through canonical process.
