Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Francis Baumgarten:

Father Francis Baumgarten was ordained to the priesthood in the Diocese of Buffalo in 1936. He was a priest for 53 years, serving most of his career teaching as a professor at the Diocesan Preparatory Seminary from 1946 until it closed in 1974. He also taught at the former Baker Victory High School in Lackawanna from 1974 until 1978, and retired in 1979. He died in 1989 at the age of 84.

According to media reports, in 2019, he was named in a lawsuit filed under the NY Child Victims Act of repeatedly sexually abusing a 13-year old child from 1955 to 1956. The lawsuit does not indicate where the alleged abuse took place, however, at the time, Father Baumgarten was assigned to Nativity of Our Lord in Orchard Park and the Diocesan Preparatory Seminary. The lawsuit names the Diocese of Buffalo, Nativity of Our Lord and the seminary as defendants.
