A Pasco County jury convicted sleep study technician Andrew Chickoree of battery on November 16, 2021 after a female patient accused him of touching her in a sexual manner at a sleep study location. Chickoree is due to be sentenced on December 8, 2021. Chickoree was caught on surveillance video entering the patient room in the middle of the night and placing his hands under the sheets. When he was confronted, Chickoree made up a story. “We’re not getting good readings. I need to do this in order to get better readings on the electrodes that were connected to her,” said Det. Ed Campbell from the New Port Richey Police Department.
Two women separately reported that they were touched in a sexual manner during overnight sleep studies. The conviction involves an August 2019 incident at Pasco Sleep Center in New Port Richey, where Chickoree was working alone overnight as a sleep technician. A separate alleged incident in Zephyrhills occurred at the Florida Medical Clinic Sleep Lab. Chickoree was employed as a Polysomnographic Technologist.
These incidents are an egregious breach of trust. People go to health care professionals to be healed and not to be harmed. Any victims of Andrew Chickoree should contact law enforcement to report this incident as soon as possible.
