Summary of Abuse Allegations Against Father Joseph Durmann:
Father Joseph Durmann was ordained in 1927. He worked as a priest for the Diocese of Brooklyn and for the Diocese of Rockville Centre. According to media reports, in August 2019, Fr. Durmann was accused in a lawsuit against the Diocese of Rockville Centre. Filed under the NY Child Victims Act, the suit accuses the priest of sexually abusing a student and parishioner at St. John of God in Central Islip from 1957 to 1961. The repeated abuse began when the student was age 9 and continued through the years until the age of 13. Fr. Durmann’s assignment in Central Islip bridged the erection of the Rockville Centre. He was a Brooklyn priest there, and then a Rockville Centre priest at the same parish.
Fr. Durmann died in 1972.
