Summary of Abuse Allegations Against Father Joseph Casaclang:

According to media reports, in October 2019, the Diocese of Rockville Centre publicly named Father Joseph Casaclang, aka Father Joy, of sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl from 1979 through 1982. The girl was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Parish in Kings Park at the time.

The abuse allegedly occurred when the priest visited the family’s home. When the Diocese of Rockville Centre learned of the allegations, Father Casaclang parted ways with the parish. Despite the accusations, he was assigned to two more churches, one in Syosset and then one in Manhasset. His name is not listed in the Official Catholic Directory after 2000. In October 2019, his accuser filed a lawsuit, and subsequently received a “low six-figures” settlement.

“It’s more of an acknowledgment by the church of what happened. It doesn’t make it go away…At least it’s a step in the right direction,” the victim said.

Father Casaclang suffered from terminal stage lung cancer. He died in July 2020.
