Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Deacon Robert Logue:
The Diocese of Harrisburg’s file for Deacon Robert Logue contained a “supplement” dated back to August 24th, 1968. The supplement was to a previous report written by Father Frederick Bradel, and noted that a 13-year-old boy and his father reported that Logue showed an interest in the boy. Logue reportedly asked the boy to expose his genitalia to him. The boy stated the contact with Logue started a year prior, in 1967. The boy also stated that he had discussed with his friends how much Robert Logue was only preoccupied with sex.
Frederick Badel confronted Logue and he “admitted his tendencies and stated they were becoming more pronounced and were a source of great and increasing concern for him.” Bishop Joseph Daley was notified and advised Logue to contact his spiritual director, consult a psychiatrist, and resign from his orders. Robert Logue agreed to contact his spiritual director and a psychiatrist, but decided to request a leave of absence instead of resigning.
Daley wrote to Bradel on September 5th, 1968, thanking him for the confidential report, and stated that he would follow closely with the status of Logue. No other documents were reported in the diocese’s files.
Robert Logue was included on the Diocese of Harrisburg’s updated list of credibly accused clergy on August 1st, 2018. According to the diocese, he was accused of inappropriate communication with a child.
In February 2020, the Diocese of Harrisburg filed for bankruptcy protection. As part of its bankruptcy, the Diocese of Harrisburg will be reviewing and paying claims for anyone sexually abused by diocesan priests and lay employees. This will likely include claims filed on behalf of anyone whose case may be beyond the statute of limitations. Ahead of the grand jury report, the Diocese of Harrisburg released the names of 71 priests, seminarians and laypersons accused of sexually abusing children since 1941. This was from the updated list that the diocese released in August of 2018. After the report was released, the total was over 301 identified and accused priests in Pennsylvania alone.
According to the bankruptcy proceedings, Logue is listed as still alive. His current whereabouts and whether or not he is still involved in active ministry is unknown.
