Summary of Abuse Allegations Against Father John Lanoue:

Father John Lanoue taught history at St. Michael’s College in the Diocese of Burlington in Vermont until 1975. Lanoue also assisted at a local church. He died in June 1980. According to media reports, in August 2019, his name appeared publicly on the Edmundites’ list of clergy credibly accused of sexual abuse of minors. It noted an allegation received in 1996 of abuse in Vermont in 1954.

A lawsuit was filed in 1997, alleging that in 1955, Father Lanoue abused a boy who attended Holy Family parish in Essex Junction. The boy’s father reportedly confronted him in the presence of St. Michael’s college president, Father Francis Moriarity. Father Lanoue admitted the abuse, but no action was taken.
