Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Barry Ryan:
Fr. Barry Ryan spent many years serving as a former Air Force chaplain. According to media reports, in 1994, he was investigated for sexual misconduct with a minor in Mobile, Alabama. He was removed from ministry, and in 1995 he was discharged from the military.
In March 2004, Ryan was charged with repeatedly sexually abusing a 6-year-old boy in Long Island, New York, in 2003. He pleaded guilty in late 2004. He lived at St. Luke’s, rather than jail, because of his “health”. In August 2007, he attempted suicide. He was remanded to prison in October 2007. As of June 2009, it is believed that he was living at St. John Vianney Renewal Center in Dittmer, Missouri. Ryan was laicized in October 2011.
In December 2018, his name appeared on the Archdiocese of Mobile’s list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors. In February 2019, his name appeared on the Diocese of Brooklyn’s list.
His current whereabouts are unknown.
