Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Javier Garcia:

Ordained for the Diocese of Acapulco, Mexico, Fr. Francisco Javier Garcia moved to the US and incardinated into the Diocese of Sacramento in 1989. Garcia was removed from ministry in 1995 and then fled back to Mexico after criminal warrants were issued for his arrest for sexually abusing multiple boys younger than age 14 in the 1970s.

According to the Dallas Morning News, The Colusa County District Attorney sought to have the priest tried in Mexico, and was assured that Mexican authorities agreed to take the case. The Mexico attorney general’s office said an arrest warrant was issued, but a prosecution deadline had passed. He refused to comment further.

Garcia still faces charges in multiple California counties as a total of 24 reports of sexual abuse to boys under 14 surfaced in the years thereafter. Garcia was removed from the ministry in 1995, and finally involuntarily dismissed from priesthood by the Pope in 2007. Garcia could not be located for comment, nor would relatives or Mexican church officials comment on his current whereabouts.

Garcia was included on the Diocese of Sacramento list of priests credibly accused of child sexual abuse.
