Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Richard Mataconis aka Philip Mataconis:

In 2002, Fr. Richard Mataconis was sued by two boys who claimed that he molested them while at a Salesian center in Goshen, NY. According to media reports, the boys claimed that Mataconis was sometimes referred to as “Philip” and he would come into their dormitories at night and perform sexual acts on them. The lawsuits were eventually dismissed due to a missed deadline for filing.

After the allegations came out, Mataconis was moved from the Diocese of Albany to Rome where he was able to hide from any other accusations. He was found giving tours at the Catacombs of St. Callixtus, where he was allowed to regularly interact with adults and children.

In 2014, Richard Mataconis died while still serving in Rome, Italy.
