Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Thomas Dermody:

The younger brother of another sexually accused priest, Fr. Thomas Dermody was ordained in 1962 when he began his 40-year commitment to the church. In 1992, the Sacramento Diocese says it learned of two separate allegations that Dermody engaged in sexual acts with females under the age of 17, between 1973 and 1985. Ironically, Dermody left the Sacramento Diocese in that same year and was assigned to prison ministry elsewhere. Coincidence?

He retired from active ministry in 2002, the same year his faculties were finally withdrawn. Two years after his death, the Sacramento Diocese received another report of sexual assault that occurred in 1985 by Dermody from an underage female.

Dermody was publicly named as accused on the Diocese of Sacramento 2019 list of clergy credibly accused of child sexual abuse.

Dermody died in 2017 at the age of 79 in Northern California.
