Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father James McLucas:

Fr. James McLucas was named as accused in the Pennsylvania Grand Jury report released in August 2018. The Mother of the Monastery reported to the Diocese of Harrisburg that she had found out that McLucas had sexually abused a 14-year-old girl he had been counseling for a serious eating disorder and self-esteem problems. He had continued the “relationship” with her into her adulthood.

The alleged victim reportedly cut off the relationship with him in 2011. She sought counseling from a different therapist, upon realizing that McLucas had taken advantage of her when she was in a vulnerable state. The Archdiocese of New York received a report of the abuse in 2012. The Diocese of Harrisburg removed him from ministry.

In April 2019, McLucas’ name appeared on the Archdiocese’s of New York’s list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors. It noted that “the victim stated in a court filing that she was not a minor when the sexual activity occurred”. The canonical process of laicization is pending.
