Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Joseph Conti:

The Diocese of Ogdensburg released a list of 28 priests who were credibly accused of sexual misconduct with a minor or a vulnerable adult in November 2018. One priest that was first named publicly for the abuse of a minor was Father Joseph Conti. The diocese did not include the number of alleged victims or the time-frame that the alleged abuse occurred.

The only information the Diocese of Ogdensburg listed about Father Conti is that he was removed from ministry and marked as deceased. According to his obituary, he taught and coached at many schools throughout New York and retired in 2002, before passing in July of 2018. Each name on the list has been internally investigated and found to have reasonable grounds by the Diocesan Review Board.

According to media reports, in April 2021, Fr. Conti was named in a lawsuit filed against the Diocese of Ogdensburg, alleging that he sexually abused a four-year old boy beginning in 1968 through the early 1970s. Fr. Conti was assigned to a Plattsburgh church at the time of the alleged abuse.
