Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Donato Cabardo:

Father Donato Cabardo was ordained a priest and served in the Archdiocese of Newark. According to media reports, in August 2020, he was arrested for alleged sexual abuse crimes that occurred in the rectory at St. Paul of the Cross Church earlier in the year. He was charged with two counts of fourth-degree Criminal Sexual Contact and one count of Harassment.

The alleged victim was an adult female who first reported the incident to the Archdiocese of Newark. The Archdiocese informed the New Jersey Clergy Abuse Task Force and the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Special Victims Unit which then launched an investigation into the allegations.

Results of the investigation found that between January and July 2020, Father Cabardo allegedly touched in a sexual manner the victim’s breast and buttocks. He also allegedly pressed his cheek against her cheek and kissed her cheek, hand, face and head.

Father Cabardo is the third priest arrested by members of the Task Force since its inception in 2018.
