Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Gus Krumm:

Fr. Gustave Krumm was ordained a priest of the Franciscan Order in 1982, who served in the Diocese of Orange. According to media reports, he was accused in a lawsuit of sexually abusing nine boys under the age of 14 in the 1970s and 1980s. In 1995, a settlement was reached with a young boy who was sexually abused by Fr. Krumm. It was revealed in several reports that the Diocese of Sacramento had known about the earlier accusations when it hired him in 1998.

In 2002, Krumm acknowledged “past indiscretions” while a seminarian and after ordination. A 1993 report by the Diocese of Sacramento’s review board determined that at least 34 St. Anthony’s Seminary students in Santa Barbara, CA, were sexually abused by 11 Franciscans — including Krumm — over three decades.

Fr. Krumm was removed from his position as pastor of a Portland, OR parish in 2002. He was then moved to a Franciscan parish in Sacramento that same year but was removed six weeks after the media revealed his whereabouts. A few weeks later, two more men accused Krumm of molesting them at their Huntington Beach, CA parish when they were children in the early 1990s. This finally went to trial in a 2009 lawsuit in which the accuser’s brother joined the lawsuit, saying that he, too, was victimized by Krumm.

In a 2011 civil trial, an attorney for the Franciscans acknowledged that Krumm had abused seven teenagers. At least one accuser said his abuse occurred at the Santa Barbara Mission in 1980. Although Krumm was finally laicized in 2006, he is thought to be working for the state in Sacramento, CA.

Fr. Krumm is listed on the Las Vegas Diocese’ 2019 List of Clergy Credibly Accused of Sexual Abuse of a Minor, as well as on the Santa Barbara Province Franciscans List the same year.
