Father James Delbel was ordained to the priesthood in the Diocese of Ogdensburg in 1981. He served in multiple parishes and various roles throughout his career. His first assignments were as associate pastor at Notre Dame, Malone, and then associate pastor at St. John’s, Plattsburgh in NY. He then became principal at St. John’s Academy in Plattsburgh. Later in his ministry, he was named as pastor of multiple parishes, and served as chaplain at Moriah Shock prison.

According to media reports, in August 2019, he was named in a lawsuit filed under the NY Child Victims Act of repeatedly sexually abusing a child between 9-10 years old in 1990 and 1991. He served at St. Mary’s Cathedral and St. Regis Falls during the time of alleged abuse. No further details have been released.
Fr. Delbel died in 2013 at the age of 69 after battling cancer for many years.
