Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Joseph Francoeur:

Father Joseph Francoeur was ordained to the priesthood of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart in the Diocese of Ogdensburg in approximately 1939. Referred to as J. Arthur or Joseph A, he served in multiple parishes throughout his career. He also worked in the Dioceses of Providence, RI and St. Petersburg, FL.

According to media reports, in August 2019, he was named in a lawsuit filed under the NY Child Victims Act alleging that he sexually abused a minor between 4-5 years old in 1959 and 1960. He was the longtime pastor at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart during the time of alleged abuse. No further details have been released. Fr. Francoeur died in 2018 at the age of 93.
