Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Rudi Gil:

In 1993, Fr. Rudi Gil was accused of sexually abusing a boy in 1987 when serving at St. Edward Church in Corona, CA. According to media reports, he resigned from his parish assignment at St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church in Lake Elsinore and was sent to Servants of the Paraclete, an institution known for treating priests accused of child sexual abuse. During counseling, Gil allegedly admitted that he had sexually abused a child. He left treatment after about two weeks because treatment was ineffective.

According to a list of priests credibly accused of sexual misconduct released by the Diocese of San Bernardino in October of 2018, the diocese was aware of this incident in 1987 but did not suspend Gil until 1993. It was not until 2002 that the allegations were reported to law enforcement and had his privileges removed.

Gil moved to Ensenada, Mexico, while on administrative leave, then moved back to Lake Elsinore, ostensibly to pursue counseling. Though he lacked the authority to do so, in 1995, Gil began to privately perform baptisms, first communions, quinceaneras, and weddings. In 2002, the diocese released his name to the police to investigate the allegations against him. As of 2018, the Diocese of San Bernardino considers him removed from the priesthood. His name is included on the Diocese of San Bernardino list of priests credibly accused of child sexual abuse.

Gil’s current whereabouts, status as a priest, and whether he has access to children are unknown.
