Summary of Abuse Allegations against Brother Edward Henriques:

Brother Edward Henriques was a member of the Franciscan Friars who served in multiple parishes in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. According to media reports, in 2008, he was named in a civil lawsuit as an abuser of a 6-year-old girl in Santa Barbara in 1964. The accuser said a Franciscan brother would force her to strip in front of him and he would fondle her repeatedly. The suit also says Henriques, was also present.

Henriques left the priesthood in the 1960s. In May 2019, his name was included on the Santa Barbara Province Franciscans list of clergy credibly accused of child sexual abuse. It noted allegations received in 1949 and 2005 of the sexual abuse of a minor in 1949 and 1963. He was assigned to St. John’s in Laveen, AZ in 1949.

In December 2020, Br. Henriques’ name was included on the the Diocese of Stockton’s list of clergy credibly accused of child sexual abuse, noting he had faculties there 1958-60.

It is believed he was living in Grass Valley, CA at some point and may have died in approximately 2002. For the last 40+ years of his life, his whereabouts were unknown.
