Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father John Kohnke:
Fr. John Kohnke was was ordained a Norbertine priest in 1937, who served at several parishes in Montana, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Texas, as well as in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles According to media reports, in 1974, he was arrested in California for sexually abusing a child from 1973 to 1974. He was also arrested twice for lewd behavior in public restrooms.
Following his arrests, Fr. Kohnke was permitted to continue working as a priest in Wisconsin. In 1990, a mother alleged that the priest had sexually abused her son in the 1970s. Fr. Kohnke has been named in at least one civil lawsuit. He was named publicly on the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ list of priests accused of sexual misconduct involving minors. He was also included in the Diocese of Helena’s list of priests against whom sexual abuse accusations have been made and on St. Norbert Abbey list in 2019. Fr. Kohnke died in 1987.
