Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Brother Bernard Thomas Pleimann:
Br. Bernard Pleimann (Ploughman) was ordained a Marianist priest in 1940. He spent much of his early career teaching in Hawaii before transferring to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. According to media reports, in 2004, a report was made to the Archdiocese alleging that Br. Pleimann sexually abused a child in 1963, while he worked at Junipero Serra High School in Gardena, California.
Br. Pleimann’s personnel file was released by the order in 2013. It revealed that he took perpetual vows in 1940 and requested dispensation from the priesthood, but was denied the first time. He was subsequently dispensed from his vows in 1973 while teaching in Japan. He has been named in at least one civil lawsuit.
Br. Pleimann died in June 1986. He was named publicly on the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ 2004 list of priests accused of sexual misconduct involving minors.
