Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Richard Henry:

Father Richard Henry was ordained a priest in 1972, who served in multiple parishes in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. According to media reports, at least 13 survivors have alleged child sexual abuse by  between approximately 1982 and 1992 while he worked at Holy Redeemer in Montrose and Our Lady of the Rosary in Paramount. The Archdiocese, including Archbishop Roger Mahony, was aware of Henry’s behavior around young boys as early as 1988. In October 1988, Father Henry was ordered in a letter from superior, then-Monsignor Thomas Curry, to “not be alone with minors.”

In December 1991, Father Henry pleaded guilty to the sexual abuse of four boys from 1985 to 1991. He was sent to St. Luke Institute for treatment and in 1993, he was sentenced to eight years in prison. He was also removed from active ministry in 1993. He was released on parole in 1996.

In 2002, new allegations of child sexual abuse were reported, and a civil suit was brought by three plaintiffs in 2003. According to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, a total of 13 accusers have alleged child sexual abuse by Father Henry. The plaintiffs were Included in a $60 million settlement involving 22 priests. His personnel file was released in 2013. Father Henry’s name appeared on the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors. His current whereabouts are unknown.
