Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Victor Uboldi:

According to media reports, in February 1992, a woman filed a lawsuit alleging that Father Victor Uboldi (sometimes spelled Ubaldi) and another man, a gardener and janitor, raped and sexually abused her hundreds of times at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church over a five-year period. The alleged abuse started when she was age 12 and continued until age 17, from 1974 until 1979. After the allegations were aired in a television news broadcast, another woman came forward alleging she, too, was sexually abused as a child by Father Uboldi. She said that Father Ubaldi fondled her at the age of 12 or 13 when he came to her house to give Communion to her sick grandmother. He denied the allegations.

After his retirement due to ill health, in 1982, Father Uboldi moved to Italy. He died in 2001.

In December 2005, Father Uboldi’s lawsuit led to a federal judge upholding the constitutionality of a California law that enabled more than 1,000 people to sue the Roman Catholic Church for allegedly failing to protect them from predator priests. In March, 2007, he was included in the Diocese of San Diego’s list of clergy credibly accused of sexually abusing minors.

His personnel file was released in October 2010.
