Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Brother John Rodrigues Moniz:

According to media reports, in 1995, Br. John Rodrigues Moniz was convicted of lewd conduct with a four-year-old girl back in 1991 while he was visiting St. Mary’s parish in Los Gatos, California. Moniz was sentenced to three years of probation, as well as ordered to pay the victim’s uninsured medical expenses and psychological treatment.

Moniz’s probation ended in 1998. At the time of the abuse, he lived at Sacred Heart Retirement Center in Los Gatos, CA, a facility the Jesuits used to house troubled priests.

Moniz later moved to Vianney Renewal Center in Dittmer, MO, a facility run by the Paracletes and known for treating sexually abusive clerics. Moniz is listed on the Jesuits West province’s 2018 list of clergy credibly accused of sexual abuse of a minor.

Moniz died in 2008.
