Fr. Thomas Bettencourt was ordained a priest in 1976, who served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of San Jose. According to media reports, in 2018, he was first named publicly as accused on the diocese’s list of priests credibly accused of child sex abuse. Those listed were assigned to a parish or diocesan ministry in Santa Clara County by the Bishop of San Jose or, in the years before our founding in 1981, by the Archbishop of San Francisco. It noted an allegation against Fr. Thomas Bettencourt was reported in 1997. The alleged abuse took place in 1982 while Bettencourt was assigned to St. Justin’s Parish in Santa Clara, California.

Fr. Thomas Bettencourt died in 1990.
