Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Francisco Carrera:

Fr. Francisco Carrera was a visiting priest from Spain.

In 2002, a former altar boy sued Carrera alleging that the priest molested him back in 1981 at Our Lady of Divine Providence Church in Miami-Dade County, Florida when he was 13 years old. According to media reports, the Diocese transferred Carrera back to Spain when learning about the abuse.

The plaintiff states that woke up to Carrera touching his private area and was sexually abused at the Miami Space Transit Planetarium and a campout with other altar boys at his parents’ home.

In 2011, a second lawsuit was filed alleging abuse of a 10-year-old boy in approximately 1976 at the same parish, Our Lady of Divine Providence Church in Miami, Florida. According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff was abused twice by Carrera, once at the boys’ house while his parents were asleep and a second time while the two slept alone in a tent during a camping trip. In 2013, the appeals court upheld the lower court’s dismissal of the statute of limitations.

Very little is known of Carrera’s activities within the church as the Archdiocese of Miami has not released any information about Carrera’s assignment history nor the year he was ordained.

Carrera has lived in Spain since the early 1980s.
