Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Jean Ronald Joseph:

Fr. Jean Ronald Joseph, a priest who served in Fort Myers leading Haitian ministries in the 1990s, was accused in 2008 of sexually abusing a 16-year- old boy in 1993 at St. Frances Xavier parish in Ft. Meyers. Fr. Joseph denied all allegations. According to media reports, Fr. Joseph fondled the victim’s genital area and touched his penis when he was asleep in bed.

Fr. Joseph was immediately suspended and was taken out of active ministry pending further investigation. He was laicized in 2013 when the victim filed a civil suit against the Diocese of Venice. In 2014, the Diocese of Venice settled the case only after secret documents were given to the plaintiff showing the Catholic Church knew the priest was guilty of abusing him as a child and that other victims were also known.
