Summary of Abuse Allegations against Brother Francis Meder:

According to media reports, in 2011, an adult female in Pennsylvania reported that Brother Francis Meder inappropriately touched her in the late 1950s when she was eight or nine years old.

In 2014, four adult males accused Brother Meder of sexual abuse in the 1950s and 1960s, when they were under age 11. The allegations include spanking and fondling after giving the children candy and leftovers from the cafeteria. He died in 1976.

In December 2020, Brother Meder’s name was included on the Marianist list of members found to have sexually abused a minor. In January 2021, he was named in a lawsuit alleging that he and another clergyman sexually abused a 14-year-old girl when the girl was a volunteer at the Marianist Family Retreat Center in Cape May Point, New Jersey in 1974.

“In April 2021 the official committee of abuse survivors in the Diocese’s bankruptcy identified Brother Meder as a person accused of abuse who has some connection to the  Rockville Centre Diocese.” According to the committee, the people on this list, “…have been accused of committing sexual abuse. These people have served within the territorial limits of the  Diocese of Rockville Centre.  A religious order and/or diocese outside of the Diocese of Rockville Centre found sexual abuse accusations against these people to be credible or sexual abuse lawsuits have been filed against these people.”
