Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Jesse Ray Ortego:
Fr. Jesse Ray Ortego was ordained a priest in 1970, and served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Baton Rouge. According to media reports, in March 2019, Fr. Ortego was publicly named by the Diocese of Baton Rouge as the “subject of credible allegations of sexual abuse of one or more minors or vulnerable adults which allegedly occurred within the Diocese of Baton Rouge after its formation in 1961.”
The list notes that the allegation of child sex abuse in the early-1970s against Fr. Jesse Ortego was received in August of 2008. The alleged abuse occurred when Fr. Ortego was assigned to Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Amant, LA. No further information was released by the Diocese of Baton Rouge regarding the gender/age of the victim or the number of people who have come forward.
Fr. Jesse Ortego left the Diocese of Baton Rouge in 1981. He is no longer involved in priestly ministry, and his current whereabouts are unknown.
