Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Peter Richardson:

Fr. Peter Richardson was ordained a priest of the Glenmary Home Missioners order in 1986, and served  served in Sylva, NC in the Diocese of Charlotte, for one year in the mid-1980s. He also worked in ministry churches in Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky, Georgia, Texas and Tennessee. He was a member of the the order for over twenty-six years.

According to media reports, in October 2019, Fr. Richardson was publicly named on the Ohio-based Glenmary Home Missioners’ list of clergy credibly accused of child sexual abuse. The alleged abuse by Fr. Richardson occurred in 2005 in Kentucky. He was barred from public ministry in August after the accusation surfaced. He did not face charges because the statute of limitations had expired.

Fr. Richardson also was named as accused on on other lists including the Diocese of Jackson, Mississippi, Diocese of Nashville, Diocese of Jackson, Miss., and the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. No abuse allegations have been documented in Charlotte. He died in 2014 at the age of 55.
