Summary of Abuse Allegations against Fr. Herve Carrier:

Fr. Herve Carrier was ordained a priest in 1947, who served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Portland.  According to media reports, in 2002, a woman contacted the Maine Attorney General’s Office and reported that she had been sexually abused by Fr. Carrier when she was eight years old. The allegation of child sexual abuse in the spring of 1958 against the priest was first reported to the Diocese of Portland in 1993 after the victim recovered the memory during therapy.

According to the alleged victim, she was walking home from the grocery store when she saw Fr. Carrier standing in the doorway of the rectory. Fr. Carrier motioned for the girl to come inside. He then exposed himself to her and forced her to perform oral sex on him. The diocese investigated the allegation and deemed their findings “inconclusive.”

Fr. Carrier retired in 1996, and died in 2002.
