Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Monsignor Howard Clinton Teacle

In February 2019, the Diocese of Alexandria publicly named Msgr. Howard Clinton Teacle on its list of clergy credibly accused of sexual abuse of a minor. According to the list, Msgr. Teacle’s file contained multiple allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse of male minors in the 1960s.

The Permanent Review Board, which evaluates all allegations of clerical sexual misconduct involving minors, reviewed the evidence in 2009. It’s unclear if the review board deemed the allegations credible after the investigation. Additionally, further details about the nature and scope of the abuse are not publicly available.

In 2019, the Diocese of Alexandria reviewed Msgr. Howard Clinton Teacle’s file and discovered more evidence of abuse. According to the diocese, the Permanent Review Board deemed the evidence and allegations credible.

Ordained in 1947, Msgr. H. Clinton Teacle Teacle served several diocesan positions, including the superintendent of schools. In this role, Msgr. Teacle started many educational projects in elementary schools. After approximately 20 years of service, Msgr. Teacle took a temporary leave of absence to study in St. Louis, Missouri. While there, he taught at the Villa Duchesne High School and the Mercy Covenant.

On August 18, 1969, Msgr. Howard Clinton Teacle was found dead in a motel bathroom. At that time, he was living at the Immaculate Conception Rectory in St. Louis County.
