According to the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee, Deacon Tom Gordon of Little Flower Catholic Church is being investigated by the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) after sexual abuse allegations were reported. The diocese stated that on February 2, 2023, Little Flower Catholic School in Pensacola, Florida, received a complaint from three students regarding Deacon Gordon, who oversees mass at Little Flower Catholic Church. DCF and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office were notified the following day, and Gordon was temporarily removed from ministry pending the outcome of the investigation. No charges have been filed as of yet.

According to media reports, Principal Michele Kenaga of Little Flower Catholic School took it upon herself to keep the parents and guardians of the students informed. Kenaga penned a letter outlining the situation regarding three students’ complaints against Deacon Tom Gordon.

“Dear Parents and Guardians of Little Flower Students, On Thursday, February 2, Little Flower Catholic School received a complaint from three students regarding Deacon Tom Gordon. It is currently being investigated, and we will let you know when more information is available. At this time, Deacon Gordon is not serving in ministry until we receive the outcome of the investigation. The protection and safety of our children are of the utmost importance to all our families at Little Flower Catholic School and Parish. Sincerely Yours in Christ, Michele Kenaga.”

News reports also say that the diocese released a statement to the public, “The Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee is committed to protecting children, youths, and vulnerable adults. Sexual misconduct by church clergy, employees, and volunteers violates human dignity and the mission of the Catholic Church. The spiritual well-being of all victims, their families, and others in the community is of particular concern to the Church.” The diocese urged anyone with knowledge of such abuse to come forward so that they could assist in the healing process and ensure a safe environment for everyone.
