Barry J. Brock, M.D., an OB/GYN, is under scrutiny with numerous lawsuits from female patients claiming he subjected them to sexual abuse and exploitation for decades. Court documents reveal patterns of misconduct spanning Brock’s 40-year stint at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and his Beverly Hills-Rodeo Drive OB/GYN Clinic. According to multiple media reports, Dr. Brock sexually violated over 100 women, 167 known to be exact, during exams and vaginal births.

In October of 2024, 35 women filed lawsuits against Cedars-Sinai alleging sexual assault while seeking care for their unborn children. They say Brock made inappropriate comments to patients, groped their breasts and genitals during medically unnecessary exams, engaged in “female genital mutilation,” and pressured a patient to undergo a vaginal birth when she sought a cesarean section. The lawsuit also says that the center knew about the alleged abuse but allowed him to continue practicing medicine for decades and covered up his crimes. Twenty-five more women joined the lawsuit after coming forward.

A second lawsuit was filed on December 27 by 107 more women who accused Dr. Brock of similar behavior, including new allegations, such as using examination instruments in inappropriate and violating ways and conducting vaginal exams without wearing gloves. One victim reported that she told Brock she was a lesbian, and he replied, “Well, I can change that.” Some of the victims allege in the new lawsuit that Brocks’s exams left them with lasting physical complications.

That makes a total of 167 women alleging they were abused by their OBGYN, Dr. Barry Brock. The allegations include:

  • Making inappropriate remarks during medical exams
  • Failing to offer patients hospital gowns when undressed
  • Inappropriately touching patients, such as reaching under blouses to fondle breasts
  • Conducting unnecessary vaginal exams and Pap smears
  • Objectifying patients under the guise of medical care
  • Performing obstetric and gynecologic exams without a chaperone present
  • Failing to provide adequate medical care during childbirth
  • Multiple failed vacuum extractions resulting in infant brain damage
  • Excessive use of Pitocin, causing uterine ruptures and injuries to both mother and child
  • Delayed and emergency cesarean sections after prolonged labor
  • Infants born with low APGAR scores, leading to extended NICU stays
  • Cases of cerebral palsy, developmental delays, and permanent brain damage

The suits further criticize Cedars-Sinai for awareness of Dr. Brock’s actions but failing to intervene. “Numerous complaints regarding [his] sexually exploitative behavior” date back decades, according to court documents. Still, “Brock continued to harm and exploit patients pretending to provide medical care at Cedars-Sinai from 1979 until August 2024.” The lawsuit alleged Cedar-Sinai knew about Brock’s off-colored behaviors and protected him rather than the patients by gaslighting, lying, and covering up Brock’s misconduct.

Though denying all sexual/medical misconduct allegations previously, Dr. Brock practiced at Cedars Sinai from 1980 till leaving the physician network in 2018—keeping hospital privileges while working at private practices. Brock, 74, was placed on medical leave in August of 2024 by Cedars-Sinai, causing Brock to surrender his privileges and retire from medicine

Background on Barry J. Brock’s Medical Career

Dr. Brock dedicated over 40 years to obstetrics and gynecology. He got his medical degree and finished his residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He was part of the Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery Center and the Center for Women’s Incontinence and Pelvic Health. Openly, he shared having done fewer cesarean sections, favoring vaginal deliveries instead. Yet, lawsuits have emerged—alleging that two babies suffered permanent brain damage after Brock didn’t perform cesarean deliveries in time.

Finding the right medical provider can be challenging. We seek out seasoned professionals who possess a good bedside manner, compassion, and empathy.  When patients finally decide on one, they hope to feel better over time and not be violated by the very person with whom we place our trust. Healthcare providers hold a position of power in the physician-patient relationship. It is both unacceptable and unlawful for a healthcare professional to touch a patient in any sexual manner or practice any sexual misconduct while treating the patient.

Horowitz Law has filed numerous sexual misconduct claims against medical professionals on behalf of patients who were inappropriately touched in their care. Under no circumstances is a doctor or nurse permitted to have sexual contact with a patient.  If you have been a victim of sexual assault or sexual battery at a medical office or facility, or if you know someone who has, please contact our law firm at 888-283-9922 or send an e-mail to sexual abuse lawyer Adam Horowitz at [email protected] for a free consultation.
