Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Raymond Ethier:
Fr. Raymond Ethier was ordained a priest in 1985. According to media reports, in May 2007, Ethier was arrested by federal authorities and charged with receiving and possessing child pornography. His computers were confiscated after they were found to contain videos and still images depicting individuals under eighteen years old, engaged in sexual conduct. Many of the movies and images showed prepubescent minors. He admitted to sexually-oriented internet chats with others regarding children. The Diocese of Albany immediately placed him on administrative leave.
In November 2007, Ethier pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography, and in June 2008, he was sentenced to four years in prison and ten years parole. He was also ordered to have no unsupervised contact with minors, to participate in a sex offender program, and to register with the state sex offender registry program in US Northern District Court in Albany. He was released in January 2012.
In 2018, Ethier was included on the Diocese of Albany list of priests who were named as being "credibly accused" of child sex abuse.
