John J. Tobin

Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against John J. Tobin:

In 2019, additional names associated with the Jesuit brotherhood were released and included the name of a lay teacher at McQuaid Jesuit high school, a school within the Diocese of Rochester.

John J. Tobin was the subject of at least three accusations of sexual misconduct with children.  One of the accusers published a long and detailed account of Tobin's abuse in Esquire magazine, which detailed multiple acts of abuse by the teacher, along with continued stalking and harassment.

While McQuaid Jesuit initially claimed to be unaware of the abuse, the school eventually admitted that it had in fact fired Tobin for what was described as "incidences of inappropriate behavior" during a class trip to Europe,

Tobin is now deceased.  There are no official documents stating Tobin's exact year of death, but some sources online say he passed away in the 1990s.

Horowitz Law is a law firm representing victims of sexual abuse in the Diocese of Rochester.  The Diocese of Rochester in New York filed for bankruptcy protection in 2019.  Our lawyers are now offering free legal consultations to discuss a potential lawsuit and your other options as a survivor of sexual abuse by priests and other employees of the Rochester Diocese.
