Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father James Mennis:

Fr. James Mennis was accused of sexual abuse of a female under the age of 18. The nature of the accusation involved sexual touching and fondling, as well as sexual intercourse. The alleged abuse occurred sometime between 1967-1969 while at Holy Spirit in Sacramento, CA, and was reported to the Diocese of Sacramento in 1969.

After the diocese received the report of misconduct, Mennis joined the U.S. Navy as a chaplain, served a 30-year career without incident, and retired in Jacksonville, Florida. In 2005, Mennis was named in a $35 million settlement as one of the priests responsible for the abuse of 33 victims.

Mennis is included on the Diocese of Sacramento list of priests credibly accused of child sexual abuse.

Mennis died in 2009 while living in Florida.
