Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Sister Alvin Marie Hagan:

Several lawsuits have been filed over the years by men who alleged that they endured sexual and physical abuse at the Catholic youth homes of Madonna Manor and Hope Haven in Marrero, Louisiana. Thus far, the public allegations involve alleged abuse  during the 1950's, 1960's, and 1970's at these facilities, which were staffed by nuns and Salesian priests. Not only were many priests involved in the lawsuits, but several nuns and clergy members were also named. One nun that was first named publicly for abusing boys at Madonna Manor was Sister Alvin Marie Hagan.

Collectively, the public lawsuits describe a harsh psychological and physical environment in which children were sometimes told they were unloved, sometimes severely beaten, and sexually abused. Several plaintiffs have told stories of public humiliation, such as having nuns closely "inspect" their teenage bodies as they emerged naked from showers.

Sister Alvin Marie Hagan died in 2007.

In September 2019, Sr. Alvin Marie Hagan was again accused in a lawsuit, along with Monsignor Raymond Hebert, Sisters Martin Marie, Gertrude Marie (Alvin Marie's twin) and lay worker Charlie Earhart, of repeatedly physically and sexually abusing a boy over a period of 10 years, beginning in 1965. The suit also accused Sisters Alvin Marie, Gertrude Marie and Martin Marie of regularly hitting him with a paddle.

A global settlement with multiple plaintiffs that included Sister Hagan was made in Fall of 2009 for almost  $5.2 million dollars.
