Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Edward Jones:

Fr. Edward Jones of the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee was removed from ministry at two Big Bend churches after he was accused of inappropriate contact with an underage girl in 2004. Fr. Jones was serving at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Tallahassee when the victim was studying to convert to Catholicism.

According to Diocese records released as part of the Democrat's records request, the victim first emailed the church on August 13, 2018, about the incident, 14 years earlier. She was undergoing spiritual counseling with Jones, meeting every couple of weeks. One evening in the fall of 2004, Jones escorted her into the room where they usually sat across from each other. This time he said they should sit together so he could try a "new direction of guidance for spiritual direction and intimacy in God's healing." They sat on a sofa, and he put his head in her lap, then had her put her head in his lap. The victim realized that he was getting sexually aroused. She immediately got up and left. When questioned, Fr. Jones, who took full responsibility for his actions. He was removed from ministry and any future ministry as a priest.
