Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Fr. Harry Quick:
Fr. Harry Quick was ordained a priest in 1962, who served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Lafayette. According to media reports, court documents that were unsealed in 2014, revealed that Bishop Gerard Frey reported that the Diocese of Lafayette first received allegations of child sexual abuse against Fr. Quick in 1977.
The alleged incident took place at St. Thomas More in Eunice, LA. After admitting to molesting the young boy, Fr. Quick was removed from the church and sent to Notre Dame University in South Bend, IN for counseling. The documents also reveal that Bishop Frey stated that Father Quick "had always been a problem and that every time he moved it was because there was some complaint of molestation."
A spreadsheet of insurance payouts by the Diocese of Lafayette indicate that one victim was paid a settlement because of an accusation against Fr. Harry Quick and Fr. Lane Fontenot.
After his treatment in 1977, Fr. Quick was returned to ministry in the Diocese of Lafayette. He eventually took a leave of absence for undisclosed "medical reasons" in 1983, and resigned his priesthood shortly thereafter. The "medical reasons" may be another allegation of abuse and subsequent psychiatric evaluation and treatment.
Quick died in 1994.
