Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Raymond Jean:
Fr. Raymond Jean was ordained a priest in 1957, who served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Norwich. According to media reports, in 1988, the priest was arrested during a crackdown on homosexual activity at a local state park. Fr. Jean has been named in multiple civil child sexual abuse lawsuits.
In 1993, he was named in a civil lawsuit alleging he sexually abused a child from 1971-1972. According to media reports, in February 1999, a lawsuit was filed alleging that Jean committed numerous acts of sexual assault, sexual abuse, and sexual exploitation on a child from the ages of 9 to 13. The abuse is said to have taken place starting in 1973 when Jean was assigned to Notre Dame Church in Durham, Connecticut.
In 2003, a former altar boy said that Jean sexually abused him back in 1985 at Our Lady of Lourdes in Ledyard, CT. The diocese paid the victim a $275,000 settlement.
Jean's name was included in the Diocese of Norwich's 2019 list of clergy credibly accused with allegations of the substance of sexual abuse of a minor.
Jean was removed from ministry in 1990 and died in 2001.
