Brother Alan Scheneman

Archdiocese of New York / Salesians of Don Bosco

Br. Alan Scheneman – Archdiocese of New York

Profession: 1978

Withdrew: 1982

Died: 2009

Assigned as follows:

  • Salesian Junior Seminary (Goshen, NY)
  • Don Bosco College summer camp (Newton, NJ)

Summary of Abuse Allegations against Brother Alan Scheneman:

Br. Alan Scheneman was a member of the Salesians of Don Bosco order. In December 2013, he was accused in a lawsuit of repeated sexual abuse of a 15-year-old boy at the Salesian minor seminary in Goshen, New York. The alleged abuse included masturbating the boy’s penis skin-on-skin. The Salesians confirmed that a monetary settlement was reached. Scheneman reportedly left the order in the 1980s. He is believed to have lived in Rancho Cucamonga, California until his death.

In 2021, a lawsuit was filed in federal court against the Diocese of Paterson (New Jersey) claiming that Scheneman allegedly abused a teenage boy who was attending a summer camp in the early 1980s in Newton, New Jersey. Scheneman was a counselor and taught photography at the camp, according to the lawsuit.  In December 2013, Br. Alan Scheneman was named in a lawsuit brought by a survivor of child sexual abuse alleging that Br. Scheneman repeatedly sexually abused him when he was a 15 year-old student attending Salesian minor seminary in Goshen.

He is listed on the Salesian’s 2021 List of Clergy Credibly Accused of Sexual Abuse of a Minor.

Scheneman died in 2009.
