Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father George William Rutler:
Fr. George William Rutler, a prominent conservative priest in the Archdiocese of New York, was accused in December 2020 of watching pornography and masturbating in his office in the presence of the 22-year old female security guard at the Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Manhattan, New York. According to media reports, the victim turned over cell phone video footage showing Rutler watching a gay pornographic video on his office computer in the church rectory. The female security officer claims that Rutler physically and sexually attacked her when she tried to flee the room.
Although Rutler denies the accusations, the Archdiocese of New York has told Catholic news media outlets that Rutler has stepped aside from pastoral duties at St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Manhattan. Rutler is also well-known internationally for his many TV programs on Eternal Word Television Network. The network suspended Father Rutler’s programming during the investigation.
George Rutler was an Episcopal priest for nine years before coming to the Catholic Church.
