Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Felix Maguire:
Fr. Felix Maguire was ordained a priest in 1950, who served in the Diocese of Norwich. He comes from a successful family, with siblings who have achieved senior positions in the church, in business and in politics. According to media reports, in 1984, a police investigation of the priest’s behavior with children was suddenly dropped without any explanation. Maguire is said to have plied multiple minors with alcohol, pornography, and money, in addition to videotaping his encounters with minor boys.
In 1986, the parents of a learning-disabled 15-year-old boy reported to Guilford police that Maguire molested their son. The case was dropped, due to the refusal of New Haven prosecutors to grant the investigators an arrest warrant.
In January 1993, Maguire was arrested in Guilford, Connecticut for the sexual assault of a young man. Maguire agreed to a plea deal of “accelerated rehabilitation”.
In 2002, a former student from St. Lawrence in West Haven, Connecticut accused Fr. Maguire of molesting him and other boys when they were in their teens. He said he told a priest about the abuse during confession at another West haven parish in 1966, but nothing was done.
Maguire’s name was included in the Diocese of Norwich’s 2019 list of clergy credibly accused with allegations of the substance of sexual abuse of a minor.
He died in 2008. His laicization process is pending.
