Associate Pastor From Vero Beach Church Arrested For Sex With a Minor

Wesley Ray Weaver, a 48-year old Associate Pastor at the First Christian Church in Vero Beach, has been arrested for allegedly having sex with a 17-year old boy.  According to the West Melbourne Police Department, the two had sex at Weaver’s home in West Melbourne.  The child reported the encounter to law enforcement after Weaver allegedly made comments to the boy indicating his desire for younger sexual partners.  The teen then participated in a phone call recorded by the police.  A West Melbourne Police Department spokesperson said Weaver confessed to the crime.

In addition to serving as Associate Pastor  at the First Christian Church, Weaver also work as a chaplain at a hospice in Titusville.  Law enforcement records reflect that the Associate Pastor used the social media app Grindr to secretly arrange the sexual encounter.  Police stated it is unknown if there are other victims.  Weaver faces a second-degree felony charge of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

This case presents another startling example of the dangers of social media and the ease with which predators may make contact with innocent children.
